WCSAT goes to National Sci Fair

The Western Cagayan School of Arts and Trades joined the 2012 Division Intel Science Fair which was held last August 2012 at Camalaniugan National High School, Camalaniugan, Cagayan. There were more than 200 participants from all schools all over Cagayan competing.

Unlike past Science Fairs, the only category students could join and compete in is the Investigatory Projects, eliminating the quiz bee and sci dama. WCSAT was able to develop 11 titles and projects — 2 individuals and 9 teams — with the help of the coaches, Mr. Joseph Inggan, Ms. Venamie Nagasangan, Mrs. Ethel Urian and Mr. Mario Baquiran.

Out of all the projects displayed and inspected by the judges, four of the WCSAT products won. Under the Life Science, Team, Cluster 1 category, the Group of Isaac Agatep, Anneliese Agatep and Winfreynel Dadia with their title, Analgesic Activity of the Different Fractions of Red Amaranth in Experimental Animal Models won 2nd Place and the group of Radiance Jurado, Judy Anne Acoba and Jandale Pastor with their title, Growth Performance of Broilers as Affected by the Ratio of Carabao Grass as Food Supplement won 1st Place.

Under the Life Science, Individual, Cluster 1 category, Alaiza Adviento won 2nd place with her title, Evaluation of the Anti-hyperglycemic Effect of Periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus) Plant Extract with Alloxan Induced Mice and Audrey Adviento with her study Antipyretic, Anti-inflammatory and Antihyperlipidemic Screening of Sweet Flag (Acorus calamus) in Mice won 1st Place.

Since only the 1st placer could advance to the Regional Science Fair, the group of Radiance and Audrey’s study were able to go.

The Regional Intel Science Fair was held last September 2012 at The DepEd Regional Office, Carig, Tuguegarao City. Fortunately, WCSAT’s two representatives both garnered awards. The study of Audrey Adviento got 2nd Place award and the group of Radiance Jurado won 1st Place.

Both studies are qualified to join the 2013 National ASEP Science Fair to be held at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City on February 8-10, 2013.
